The Bar Code ActiveX Control software supports all commonly used bar code symbologies including Code 39, UPC, EAN, Code 128, PostNET, CodaBar, BookLAN, HIBC and Interleaved 2 of 5. The PLUS version also supports for the newest two-dimensional bar codes including PDF417, Aztec Code, Data Matrix and MaxiCode.

If you are a developer and plan to distribute the Bar Code ActiveX Control with your application software, you will be happy to know that the total uncompressed size of all the files that you need to distribute with your application is less than 500Kb. The compressed size is typically less than 200Kb. In fact, only four small files are required to be installed in order to provide complete support for all of the different types of bar codes supported by the Bar Code ActiveX Control. The standard version of the Bar Code ActiveX control software will work in an HTML document as long as the browser is Internet Explorer running under Windows. If you can restrict the end users to this configuration then our barcode ActiveX control is without question the best solution for adding bar codes to a web page. The PLUS version of our bar code ActiveX control has the ability to save bar code graphics using the GIF, JPEG and PNG file formats which would allow the images to be used in a web browser application that would be independent of the type of browser. To generate bar codes in a web server application where the bar codes are created dynamically would require that you create an Active Server page or use Java or CGI scripting. This web-based scripting or code would dynamically create the bar codes by calling the ActiveX control and having it save the images to disk files on your server and then output a web page with links to the graphics. If you will be presenting the same bar code without requiring that the bar code change at all then you could simply save the bar code images on your server and reference them in an HTML page just like any other graphic.

The only issues with using these PLUS version features is that GIF, JPEG and PNG files are all raster style graphics that are initially created with a specific dot resolution. If the resolution that is used to create the bar codes is different from the resolution of the end user's printer then it is possible that the bar codes will not be rendered perfectly when printed. The PLUS version of the barcode ActiveX control software comes with extensive documentation that describes how to produce bar codes as GIF, JPEG or PNG files that will have an excellent chance of printing correctly. With raster style images, it is impossible for us to guarantee that you will get perfect bar codes on all combinations of browsers and printers however with care you can achieve very good results.
